The MALICA (Markets and Agriculture Linkages for Cities in Asia) research platform, in collaboration with IIED (International Institute for Environment and Development), VAAS (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences), and IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development), will organize a workshop in Hanoi from 1 to 2 October 2015 to discuss, share and consolidate knowledge and experience regarding the new trends in food consumption, urbanization and rural transformations in Vietnam and East/South-East Asia.

Objectives of the workshop:

  • Review current understanding of trends in food consumption of urban and rural low-income groups, with a focus on Vietnam and SE/E Asia
  • Review current understandings of the links between changes in food demand / consumption patterns associated with urbanisation (both cities and small towns) and rural transformations
  • Identify how this can contribute to a better understanding and more accurate narrative of food security, urbanisation and rural development
  • Identify priority issues for knowledge integration and policy
  • Identifying key audiences and priorities for supporting regional and local processes
