MALICA hold its evaluation for the term 2017-2022

16 November 2022, Markets and Agriculture Linkages for Cities in Asia – MALICA Platform carried out the 5-year Evaluation Workshop for the term 2017-2022 in Hanoi, with the support from the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences – VAAS. This is an important activity of MALICA, to comprehensively evaluate the strategy, activities, values and outcomes of this platform in partnership for research and training.

Participating the evaluation workshop, there are experts of Sydney University, Queensland University, Vietnam National University of Agriculture and representatives of 11 Malica members, including VAAS, CASRAD, FAVRI, IPSARD, RUDEC, CIRAD, IRD, Alliance Bioversity International - CIAT, ILRI, NOUL and NAFRI. The event honor to have presences of Assoc. Prof. Dao The Anh – Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), and Chairman of the MALICA Platform; Mr. Sylvain Perret – Head of Research Department "Environments & Societies" of CIRAD, Mr. Saykham Vorachit - Deputy Director of Planning Department of Laos National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI).

Opening the evaluation workshop, Dao The Anh gave an overview of MALICA, and analyzed the Strengths – Weaknesses – Opportunities – Threats (SWOT) of the platform to Evaluation Committee and MALICA partners. From 2017 to presence, MALICA has maintained its activities in 4 key areas, including Governance & Partnership, Science & Research, Training & Capacity building, Policy dialogue. Most activities happen within the framework of funded projects, that involve some or all MALICA partner institutions. In between 2020 and 2021, activities of the platform were badly affected by the Covid pandemic.

On behalf of all MALICA members, Mr. Michael Bruckert, Facilitator of MALICA and Researcher of CIRAD presented the Self-evaluation report, and answered questions from the Evaluation Committee and participants.

The evaluation workshop is the first step of the evaluation process, to be followed by a series of private discussions between Evaluation Committee and each MALICA partner. Evaluation report is expected to be done at the beginning of 2023.
