Workshop "National branding strategies for vietnam rice"
On September 22nd, MALICA, in collaboration with the Department of Processing for Agro-Forestry-Fisheries and Salt Production, the National Intellectual Office of Vietnam, and Rural Development Center (RUDEC/IPSARD) held the workshop on ‘National Branding Strategy for Vietnam rice’, chaired by the Deputy of Minister of Science and Technology, Tran Viet Thanh
Mr. Tran Viet Thanh, Deputy of Minister of Science and Technology
The workshop has been seen as an important step to kick off the Vietnamese government’s Plan on development of Vietnam rice trademark’, which was approved by the Prime Minister in May, 2015. Though National branding is an old topic around the world, rice is the first product to be developed under a national trademark in Vietnam.
The workshop welcomed the participation of leaders of line ministries and localities, domestic experts and international experts from Thailand and India, representatives from international organizations, enterprises and many media and press agencies.

At the workshop, leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have highlighted achievements, which the Vietnamese agricultural sector has gained over 3 decades, as well as challenges the sector would face under the global economic integration. The participants were also shared by international experts about their experiences on national branding. Especially, experiences of Thailand, and India, two successful countries on rice branding and exporting, would be valuable for Vietnam in developing its national rice brand in years to come.
The workshop is high appreciated by leaders and representatives of line ministries, and concerned organizations for its great success. This would serve a good start for the Vietnamese government to implement its Plan on development of the first trademark for rice, one of important national agricultural products.
