Last update: 24 February 2023

The REVALTER project aims at promoting a new vision of livestock development in Vietnam, a country faced with extremely rapid intensification and industrialization of the sector.

  • Duration: 2013-2016
  • Study sites: Vietnam. Ba Vi district (Ha Noi); Thong Nhat district (Dong Nai);  Mai Son district (Son La)
  • Funding: ANR Agence Nationale de la Recherche, France

Vietnam has been particularly affected by this transition in the livestock sector due to sharply rising demand for pork and dairy products across the country. Working in close partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, the REVALTER project aims to guide national livestock development policies by building foresight scenarios for the sector. This approach relies on analyzing past changes that have affected the relationship between livestock and ecosystems. The teams also works to understand the governance mechanisms associated with these trajectories of changes. Finally, the project seeks to evaluate and compare farming system sustainability indicators to evaluate the tradeoffs between different scenarios proposed for discussion.
